Shared Resources: The PowerPC* 604e microprocessors share a common, hierarchical memory and utilize a single image of the function- rich AIX Version 4 operating system. By efficiently sharing resources, this server has the speed and data traffic flow required for processing commercial applications.

Availability and Reliability: IBM* SystemGuard, an integrated diagnostic service processor, continuously monitors system operations, allows for local and remote diagnostics, and supports processor reconfiguration in case of errors.

Ample Expansion Room: The standard configuration includes 4.5GB SCSI-2 internal disk, 8X CD-ROM, 3.5-inch diskette drive, 15 available Micro Channel* expansion slots and two available disk/media bays. Separate purchase of an R00 System Rack and server drawers provides the freedom to add more processors or storage capacity. For increased flexibility, you can mix and match SCSI-2 and Serial Storage Architecture (SSA) disk drives to your R50 configuration.

Hot-Swappable Power Supply: The Model R50 comes standard with either an AC (220 VAC) or a DC (-48 VDC) input power supply. An additional redundant, hot-swappable power supply can be added to increase system availability.

The RS6000 Model R50 enterprise server is a rack-mountable symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) system running the AIX operating system. It is very reliable, highly scalable, and readily expandable - qualities that are crucial for today's business and technical environments. Further enhancing this server's performance can be as easy as plugging in additional processor cards.
